NAPLAN - Outstanding results

NAPLAN assesses five domains of literacy and numeracy (Writing, Spelling, Grammar and Punctuation, and Numeracy). Conversations and statements involving NAPLAN results often refer to bands, rather than the scaled scores from the assessment task. Each of the five domains tested is divided into 10 bands. The testing results place students in a specific band which is either at, above or below the minimum standard. A National Minimum Standard(NMS) has been set for each year level.  The NMS for Year 3 is Band 2 and Year 5 is band 4.
Student outcomes for the five NAPLAN domains are also provided as scaled scores. These scores range from 0 to 1000, and form the numeric continuum from which the 10 national reporting bands are derived.  The scale continues from Year 3 to Year 9 making it easier for parents and teachers to identify improvement over a period of time however it is important to consider these results together with other school based assessments.
Year three NAPLAN results at Hayman Island SS were outstanding (no Year 5 students enrolled).  Results placed students in the upper two bands (well above NMS) in Spelling, Grammar and Punctuation and Writing.  Reading and Numeracy results also placed students above NMS.  Students and teachers are to be congratulated on these results!
